My name is Jermaine Aroma.

My work moves between photography, digital collage, and illustration. Using multiple exposure, I merge portraits of people with flowers and other natural elements. Each collage is built layer by layer in Photoshop until a new, stratified image emerges. That layering is not a stylistic choice; it is a position. Just as identity consists of overlapping layers, origin, belief, the image you hold of yourself, every image I create reflects those same strata.

Mother Earth is the greatest source of inspiration in my work. From a Surinamese perspective, I explore what our place is within nature, and how origin, spirituality, and self-image are interwoven. In my collages, flowers and plants are not decoration. They are an equal part of the portrait itself. The question I ask is always the same: who are you, and how do you relate to the world around you?

Alongside my fine art, I make documentary photography: people, places, and moments as they truly are, unscripted. Where my fine art revolves around culture, feeling, and aesthetics, carefully constructed in the studio or under deliberately chosen light, my documentary work is about authenticity. Both grow from the same impulse: making visible what is already there.

I also work as an art director, graphic designer, and product/UX designer. With Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Figma, I bring an extra layer of creativity to every project, whether it involves visual art, branding, or product development.
